But that’s not what you signed up for. You like the service and you don’t want to downgrade, but the monthly bill is draining your budget.

Why?

Well, because you’re no longer on the introductory price. Now, you’re thinking you should change your internet plan or shift to a cheaper option, but the issue is that you are satisfied with the current plan.

So, is there a solution to this problem?

Technically, there are so many ways you can lower your monthly internet bill without changing the plan or downgrading your option. So, if you are interested in paying less and gaining more, keep reading. This write-up will cover tips and tricks that can help you maximize your monthly internet bill.

Top 7 Hacks to Lower Your Monthly Internet Bill

Reevaluate Your Internet Needs

Understanding your internet needs is the first step towards lowering your internet bill.

    How?

The main idea is that most people overestimate their internet requirements. So, they get the fastest package a brand has to offer. Consequently, they are stuck with an expensive package rather than paying as per their daily internet requirement.

So, if you really want to save money, try to understand your internet needs, make sure you are not on a fiber internet plan (which is more than enough for a single household), or paying for the amenities that you don’t even need.

    Compare Prices

Apart from the package, you can also compare prices. For beginners, comparing prices might be challenging, but you don’t have to do everything manually. Instead, some online platforms help you find low-cost internet providers within your area.

Most of these price comparison sites are automated, so you can just add your requirement, and the tool will find the best option as per your internet need and budget. Even if you don’t want to downgrade your plan, you might still end up getting the same speed and amenities at affordable prices from some other brand.

      Get On a Subsidy Program

If your budget is low and you are not earning enough, subsidy programs are perfect for you. The government and ISPs come together to launch different discount programs. Most of these discount programs are meant for low-income households, students, part-time workers, veterans, and senior citizens.

So, if you fall under any of these categories, make sure to reach out to your internet service provider and ask for their subsidy programs.

Even if you are not eligible, ask them about all the other subsidy programs that they might offer. This will help you lower your bill without reducing speed or shifting to any other plan.

        Bundle Up Your Internet

Most internet service providers offer multiple services, i.e., internet, cable TV, and phone. Since most households use all these facilities, it is better to get all these services from the same provider in a bundle.

Now, I’m not saying that if you already have a cable TV plan or phone plan, you need to shift. However, if your internet service provider has a decent bundling option, you’d be saving a lot of money through that.

Another important thing to consider here is that these service providers let you customize your bundle, which means you can pick the speed, data, and connection type that you want to bundle with cable TV and phone.

          Buy Your Own Equipment

This might be a controversial take, but your equipment rent might be the culprit behind your growing internet bill.

            How?

Well, most users opt for the modem and router renting option from their ISP. This means that rather than paying a lump sum amount in hundreds, you will be paying just $20-50 with every bill. This makes the user think that maybe it is not a bad deal, but in the end, you might be paying much more.

So, it is much better to buy a used or refurbished router/modem rather than paying an equipment fee.

            Get a Discount

Most people might not know this, but most of the internet service providers roll out discount internet plans each year. Some ISPs roll out this plan during the sale season, while others offer it to retain their users.

So, it is better to wait for the sales that roll out during the Christmas, Halloween, or Easter seasons. Although most of these sales are meant for new users, however, you might end up bagging a decent deal if your ISP also offers loyalty points.

              Negotiate Your Bill

Finally, here’s one more trick that many internet users miss out on.

Now, I know we mentioned earlier that you don’t have to downgrade or switch the plan, but you can always negotiate your bill with your ISP.

                How is that possible?

A simple trick is to call your ISP and tell them that you can’t afford the plan, and so you want to switch to another ISP. Since most of these internet service providers have retention departments, you might end up getting a decent discount deal. However, it all comes down to your negotiation skills, so make sure to be polite and persuasive.

The internet is a necessity in this digital age, but you do not have to pay a hefty bill. The above-mentioned tips will help you reduce your internet bill in no time.
